On 27th April 2023 (Thursday) a guest lecture on 'Contribution of Freedom Fighters of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in India's Freedom Movement' was organized by IQAC, History Dept., NCC and NSS in SGM College, Karad. on the occasion of ‘Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.’ Prof. Dr. Bharatbhushan Mali, Head of History Dept., Krantisinha Nana Patil College, Walwa was invited as a chief speaker and guest for this lecture. This lecture was organized under the leadership of Hon. Principal Dr. Mohan Rajmane.

In the preface Vice- Principal Prof. Suryavanshi N.R. Head of History Dept., SGM College, addressed the audience and welcomed the guests present on the dais. Dr. Bharatbhushan Mali in his lecture shed some light on the contributions of Scheduled Castes and Tribes freedom fighters as well as the poor and backward classes of the society in India’s Freedom Movement.

Further, he talked about the process of writing history or how it is written. In this, he explained how for hundreds of years history has been dominated by the upper classes of the society and how the history of the poor and backward classes has been ignored and isolated. He marked the importance of bringing up their history to every common man and giving it the recognition it has always deserved. For years, their history has been unknown to us because of the partial mentality of the aristocrats and the upper classes for whom only their money and status matter the most. The backward classes were the ones who suffered and were exploited the most by the foreign regimes, especially during the British Rule. Dr. Mali also mentioned that the need to fight against the unjust rule of the British was expressed by these castes and tribes and they were the source of the later uprisings that led to nationwide revolts. Right from the Northeast regions to the Southern parts of India, there have been numerous people belonging to these Scheduled Castes and Tribes who took part in the freedom movement, and even sacrificed their lives but all of their deeds and actions were ever praised because no one ever thought of taking them into account. In the end, Dr. Mali, in his lecture, emphasized that the poor and backward classes of this society have a share of unique significance in India’s Freedom and it should never be forgotten.

Lt. Sandip Mahajan concluded the lecture by thanking all the guests, teachers, students, and cadets for their presence.
